This Disclaimer (“Disclaimer”) applies to the website https://ctrlliving.ca (the “Site”) and to all smart home consulting and related services (“Services”) provided by Ctrl+Living Inc. (“Ctrl+Living”, “we”, “us”, or “our”).

By using our Site or Services, you acknowledge and agree to the statements below.

1. Smart Home Services – No Electrical Work Performed by Ctrl+Living

Ctrl+Living provides planning, consulting, configuration, and optimization services for smart home systems. We do not perform licensed electrical work of any kind.

Any work involving electrical wiring, breaker panels, in-wall cabling, or modifications to fixed electrical systems must be performed by a qualified, licensed electrician, in accordance with applicable law.

1.1 Working With Licensed Electricians

If electrical work is required, you may:

  • Hire your own licensed electrician, or
  • Request that we refer or coordinate a licensed electrician or contractor on your behalf.

Where we coordinate or recommend an electrician, the electrical work is performed entirely by the licensed contractor, not by Ctrl+Living. Unless stated in a written agreement, we do not supervise or assume responsibility for the contractor’s work, safety practices, or compliance.

Any warranties, guarantees, or liability for electrical work are solely between you and the licensed electrician.

2. No Emergency or Life-Safety System

Smart home systems, automations, sensors, and notifications configured or recommended by Ctrl+Living are intended for convenience, comfort, and general home management. They are not certified or guaranteed for use as emergency, life-safety, or critical monitoring systems.

You must not rely on any smart home system or automation for:

  • Medical monitoring or personal emergency response;
  • Fire, smoke, CO, gas leak, or hazard detection;
  • Security or intrusion detection as a sole protection method;
  • Any situation where a delayed or missed notification could cause harm.

You are responsible for maintaining appropriate certified life-safety devices and professional monitoring services required by law or best practice.

3. Limitations of “Help Button” or Assistance Features

Some optional configurations may include a button or device intended to trigger a notification or request for help (for example, using a third-party device such as a Flic Button). These features are not emergency response systems and should not be relied upon as a primary or sole means of seeking assistance.

The performance of these features depends on multiple factors outside our control, including:

  • Battery level of the button (especially where no battery reporting is available);
  • Bluetooth connectivity, range, and interference;
  • Mobile phone availability (powered on, Bluetooth enabled, Flic app running, OS not killing background apps);
  • Home Internet or mobile data availability and signal strength;
  • Third-party services such as: Flic app or cloud, mobile OS, phone hardware, Cloudflare Worker routing, ISP services;
  • Local automation systems such as Home Assistant, including server uptime and local network function;
  • Home power availability and reliability of routers, hubs, or Wi-Fi devices.

Due to these dependencies, we cannot guarantee that any help-button or assistance-trigger will be sent, received, delivered, or acted upon in any timeframe—or at all.

These features must never be used as a replacement for calling 911 or contacting appropriate emergency services.

4. Third-Party Products, Platforms & Integrations

Many smart home systems depend on hardware, software, cloud services, and platforms supplied by third parties. Ctrl+Living does not control or guarantee the performance or future availability of these third-party systems.

We make no guarantees regarding:

  • Cloud or app availability, outages, or disruptions;
  • Firmware, OS, or app updates that alter or remove functionality;
  • Changes to third-party APIs or integrations;
  • Internet or mobile network reliability;
  • Compatibility between devices, apps, or platforms now or in the future.

Your use of third-party products and services is governed by their respective terms and conditions.

5. No Guarantee of Automation Performance

Smart home automations depend on many variables, including hardware quality, wireless conditions, network performance, cloud services, and user configuration.

We do not guarantee that any automation, trigger, or notification will function without interruption, delay, error, change, or failure.

Even well-designed systems may behave differently over time due to factors outside our control.

6. No Professional Advice (Beyond Scope)

The information provided on our Site or through our Services is for general informational purposes only. Nothing we provide should be considered legal, electrical, structural, security, medical, or other professional advice unless explicitly stated in writing.

You are responsible for consulting licensed professionals where required.

7. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Ctrl+Living is not liable for any:

  • Indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages;
  • Loss of data, revenue, business, or opportunities;
  • Personal injury, property damage, or health impacts arising from smart home system use or failure;
  • Issues caused by third-party devices, cloud services, updates, interruptions, or outages;
  • Errors, delays, missed notifications, or failures in automations or “help button” features;
  • Battery depletion, Bluetooth disconnection, network issues, or power outages;
  • Actions, omissions, or workmanship of electricians, contractors, or subcontractors.

Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid to Ctrl+Living for the specific Services.

8. Changes to This Disclaimer

We may update this Disclaimer from time to time to reflect changes in our Services, third-party technologies, or legal requirements. The “Last updated” date will be revised accordingly.
