Terms & Conditions

Last updated: November 25, 2025

These Terms & Conditions (“Terms”) govern your use of the website https://ctrlliving.ca (the “Site”) and any services offered by Ctrl+Living Inc. (“Ctrl+Living”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) through the Site or directly (the “Services”).

By accessing or using our Site or Services, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use our Site or Services.

1. Who We Are

Ctrl+Living Inc. is a smart home consulting and services company based in British Columbia, Canada. We help clients plan, set up, and optimize smart home systems and related automations using compatible hardware and software ecosystems from third-party manufacturers and providers.

2. Scope of These Terms

These Terms apply to:

  • Your use of our Site, including browsing, viewing content, and submitting forms;
  • Your initial contact with us, including consultation requests and quote requests;
  • Any Services that do not have a separate written agreement.

In some cases, we may provide a separate written agreement, proposal, or statement of work. If there is any conflict between these Terms and a signed written agreement, the terms of the signed agreement will govern for that specific engagement.

3. Smart Home Services and Important Limitations

Ctrl+Living provides planning, configuration, and optimization services for smart home systems. Our Services may include:

  • Consulting, planning, and design of smart home automations and routines;
  • Recommendation of compatible devices and platforms supplied by third parties;
  • Assistance with software configuration, dashboards, and integrations;
  • Education, demonstrations, and general usage guidance.

We do not perform licensed electrical work. Any work that involves electrical wiring or modifications must be completed by a qualified, licensed electrician. You are responsible for engaging appropriate trades as required by law.

Many smart home functions rely on third-party devices, wireless technologies, software, and internet connectivity. Performance may be affected by factors outside our control, including:

  • Device battery levels (including devices such as Flic buttons that do not provide real-time battery reporting);
  • Bluetooth signal quality, range, and interference;
  • Mobile phone availability (powered on, Bluetooth enabled, app permissions, background operation);
  • Mobile network or Wi-Fi availability, signal strength, and outages;
  • Third-party cloud services (e.g., Flic app, mobile OS, Cloudflare Worker, ISP providers);
  • Local systems such as Home Assistant, home networking equipment, or power supply interruptions.

Because these factors are outside our control, we cannot guarantee the delivery, timeliness, or reliability of any notifications, triggers, or automations that depend on them.

4. No Emergency or Life-Safety System

Smart home systems and automations we help configure—including any “help” or “assist” button functionality— are intended for convenience and general home management only. They are not certified emergency response systems, medical alert systems, or life-safety devices.

You must not rely on any smart home setup, button, alert, or automation for:

  • Medical or health-related emergencies;
  • Critical assistance or emergency response;
  • Fire, smoke, CO, or hazard detection;
  • Security or intrusion monitoring as a sole means of protection;
  • Any situation where a delay, missed alert, or failure could cause harm, injury, or loss.

“Help button” features (including those using third-party hardware such as Flic buttons) may fail under many conditions, including but not limited to: battery depletion, Bluetooth disconnection, phone settings, app closure by the operating system, lack of data/Wi-Fi, cloud service outages, device malfunction, or power failure.

These features are not a substitute for contacting 911 or appropriate emergency services. Users should always maintain independent, certified life-safety devices and professional monitoring where legally required.

5. Use of Third-Party Products and Services

Our Services may involve products and services provided by third parties. We do not control or guarantee:

  • The performance, availability, or accuracy of third-party hardware or apps;
  • The operation or uptime of third-party cloud services, APIs, or integrations;
  • Firmware, OS, or platform updates that may change or disrupt functionality;
  • Network-level reliability, including mobile carrier or ISP services.

Your use of third-party services is subject to their respective terms and privacy policies.

6. Quotes, Pricing, and Payment

Any prices or quotes provided are in Canadian dollars (CAD), unless otherwise stated, and may be subject to applicable taxes.

We may provide:

  • Estimates, which are non-binding; or
  • Formal quotes valid for a specified period.

6.1 Deposits and Invoices

Deposit requirements and payment terms will be communicated in advance.

6.2 Cancellations and Rescheduling

If you cancel or reschedule with short notice, we may charge a fee or retain part of a deposit, depending on the circumstances.

7. Refunds and Returns

Our policies are detailed on our Refund & Returns page, which forms part of these Terms.

8. Your Responsibilities

By using our Services, you agree to:

  • Provide accurate information during consultations and setup;
  • Engage licensed professionals for electrical work where required;
  • Maintain your home internet, Wi-Fi, devices, and power supply;
  • Keep mobile devices charged, powered on, with Bluetooth and required apps enabled;
  • Test any “help” or alert features regularly to ensure functionality;
  • Not rely on any button, automation, or alert as a sole or primary means of seeking help;
  • Review and comply with third-party hardware and software instructions.

9. Acceptable Use of Our Site

You agree not to misuse our Site or Services.

10. Intellectual Property

All content on the Site is owned by or licensed to Ctrl+Living.

11. Testimonials, Feedback, and User Content

You grant us a license to use voluntarily submitted content as described in this section.

12. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Site and Services are provided “as is” without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee:

  • Continuous, uninterrupted, or error-free operation;
  • The reliability or delivery of alerts, triggers, or automations;
  • The performance of third-party networks, devices, or cloud systems;
  • That help-button or notification features will function at any given time.

Smart home features depend on many external factors—including device batteries, Bluetooth range, mobile device settings, network availability, third-party infrastructure, and power supply— which may fail without warning.

13. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Ctrl+Living is not liable for:

  • Indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages;
  • Loss of data, revenue, or business opportunities;
  • Personal injury, harm, or property damage arising from reliance on any automation, alert, help-button, or smart home configuration;
  • Failures or delays caused by factors outside our control, including device malfunction, battery depletion, Bluetooth issues, home network problems, internet outages, mobile carrier issues, cloud-service downtime, power failures, or changes by third-party providers.

Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount paid to us for the specific Service.

14. Privacy and Cookies

Your use of the Site is also governed by our Privacy Policy.

15. Third-Party Links

We are not responsible for third-party sites or resources.

16. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms periodically.
